Chapter 10 - Samuel

Elena had not spoken to Samuel Reyes in seven years.
He had been charming, ambitious, and furious when she ended their engagement after discovering he lied about money.
Victoria knew all of that.
She married him anyway.
Secretly.
Rachel found the marriage license in Nevada.
Six weeks earlier.
Adrian looked at Elena.
"Why keep the marriage secret?"
"Because I would have asked questions."
Daniel found Samuel's business history.
Three bankrupt companies.
Two civil fraud judgments.
One current consulting contract with Marcus Vale.
The pieces finally touched.
Samuel knew the Bennett family's internal weaknesses through Victoria.
Marcus knew how to move money.
Dr. Cole could help build a medical narrative.
Victoria had family access.
But motive still mattered.
Was Victoria protecting a husband?
Stealing for herself?
Trying to seize Noah's trust?
Or all three?
Then the police found Victoria.
She walked into a lawyer's office downtown and surrendered.
No dramatic chase.
No confession.
She looked exhausted.
Her attorney released one statement:
"Victoria Marsh categorically denies harming her nephew."
During questioning, she admitted sending Lily the money offer.
"I wanted privacy that morning."
She admitted accessing Elena's medical information.
"I was worried about my sister."
She admitted meeting Harold.
"I was learning how to protect Noah."
But she denied touching the bottle.
Then police showed her the lab result.
For the first time, she cried.
"I didn't put anything in his milk."
The detective asked:
"Then who did?"
Victoria whispered:
"Samuel."
Elena felt the room spin.
Victoria continued.
"He said he was only going to make the baby sick enough for the hospital. He said once Elena looked negligent, the guardianship case would work."
The detective leaned forward.
"And you believed him?"
Victoria covered her face.
"I didn't know he meant that bottle."

Then she said the sentence Elena would never forget.
"I was supposed to switch it back before Noah drank it."
