Chapter 11 - What Victoria Knew

Elena wanted to hate Victoria cleanly.

It would have been easier.

But the truth was uglier.

Victoria claimed Samuel planned to create a nonfatal medical scare, enough to support the story that Elena was careless and unstable.

Victoria agreed to help stage the circumstances.

She expected a harmless substitute.

She said Samuel changed the plan without telling her.

The police did not simply believe her.

Neither did Elena.

"You were willing to use my baby," Elena said during a recorded family interview arranged through attorneys.

Victoria cried.

"I never wanted him hurt."

"You wanted him useful."

Victoria looked down.

That was the difference.

Adrian asked, "Why?"

Victoria finally admitted the financial pressure.

Samuel owed millions.

Marcus had been covering losses using company vendors.

When Charles Bennett discovered the irregularities, he created Noah's trust as a control mechanism. The birth of a grandson would shift voting power, trigger audit rights, and expose the scheme.

Samuel told Victoria they would lose everything.

"Everything?" Elena asked. "Or stolen money?"

Victoria flinched.

Then she confessed to helping create the guardianship case.

Photos of Elena crying.

Edited messages.

False statements.

Access to records.

But she insisted Samuel contaminated the bottle.

Police searched Samuel's apartment.

He was gone.

They found burner phones, false identification, cash, and a printed route to the Canadian border.

More disturbing was a folder titled LILY PARKER.

The maid.

Inside were her immigration records, employment history, her mother's address, and a debt belonging to her younger brother.

Elena looked at Lily.

"Why would they have this?"

Lily's face drained.

"Because Victoria asked me to lie two months ago."

"About what?"

May you like

Lily swallowed.

"About you dropping Noah."
