Chapter 14 - The Pantry Recording

The recording did not show who touched the bottle.

But it destroyed Victoria's claim that she knew nothing.

She knew there was a plan to create a medical crisis.

She knew Samuel was escalating.

And she still walked away.

Prosecutors charged Samuel after he was captured at a motel near the border.

Victoria faced separate charges tied to conspiracy, fraud, document manipulation, and child endangerment allegations.

Marcus faced financial-crime charges and cooperation agreements.

Dr. Cole's medical license was suspended pending investigation into unauthorized records access and false professional statements.

Harold resigned as trustee.

For the first time in weeks, the mansion became quiet.

Elena hated the quiet.

Every room reminded her of how much had happened while she was looking somewhere else.

She found Lily in the kitchen packing a suitcase.

Elena's stomach dropped.

"You're leaving."

Lily nodded.

"I think I need to."

"Because of me?"

Lily took time before answering.

"Partly."

Elena accepted it.

"I understand."

That surprised Lily.

Elena continued.

"I want to ask you to stay. I won't."

Lily's eyes filled.

"Thank you."

Adrian offered severance, housing help, legal support, anything Lily needed.

She accepted legal support only.

"I want the rest to be my choice."

Elena hugged her, but only after asking.

Lily left the mansion that afternoon.

Noah cried when she said goodbye.

Elena did too.

Three days later, Rachel called with the emergency trust ruling.

A judge removed all family members from control of Noah's voting rights and appointed an independent fiduciary.

Victoria could no longer gain control through guardianship.

It should have felt like victory.

Then Rachel added:

"There is something else in Charles's sealed trust file."

"What?"

"A second beneficiary."

Elena frowned.

May you like

Rachel said:

"Lily Parker."
