Chapter 12 - ISABELLA'S CONFESSION

Isabella had known for years that Dominic was involved in financial schemes.
What she had not known was how far they reached.
"Your mother came to me with altered medication records," Isabella told Emma. "At first, I thought someone was trying to make me sick. Later I understood the goal was different."
"To make you look incompetent," Emma said.
Isabella nodded.
If Isabella appeared confused or unstable, Dominic could argue that she was unfit to control the foundation shares.
Linda documented every irregularity.
Then someone broke into the Carter home.
"I asked Linda to stop," Isabella said. "She refused."
Emma swallowed.
"Did they kill her?"
Isabella's eyes filled.
"I don't know. I know she was already ill. I also know her medication disappeared twice during her final month."
Daniel had never known that part.
Vincent looked devastated.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because you were twenty-three and furious at the world. Dominic was helping run the company. Richard Keene was everywhere. I was afraid you'd charge at them before we had proof."
Vincent laughed bitterly. "So you let me trust him for fifteen years."
"I kept you alive."
That ended the argument.
Isabella reached for Emma's hand.
"Your mother saved me more than once. Tonight, you did the same thing."
Emma shook her head. "I just stopped a slap."
"No. You interrupted a performance. Victoria planned to provoke me in public, then claim my reaction proved I was unstable."
Emma remembered all the powerful guests watching.
The humiliation had been part of the trap.
A phone rang.
Marco answered.
His expression changed.
"Dominic is gone."
"Gone where?" Vincent asked.
"Someone cut power to the hospital floor. By the time backup came on, his guard was unconscious and Dominic's bed was empty."
May you like
Isabella closed her eyes.
"Richard is cleaning up."
