Chapter 19 - THE LAST SIGNATURE

The final attack did not come from Keene.
It came from his lawyer, Charles Wren, who had quietly moved Halcyon's remaining assets into new companies before the arrests.
Wren had drafted the false hotel statement and was preparing civil suits against Emma, Vincent, and Isabella.
"He wants to bury us in litigation until witnesses get tired," Marco said.
Emma looked at the pile of documents.
"Then we don't fight him one lawsuit at a time."
She remembered Carl's laptop.
Every forged document used the same digital notarization service.
Vincent's legal team subpoenaed the service logs.
One account had approved Isabella's fake trust transfer, Emma's fake witness signature, and the emergency guardianship petition.
The account belonged to Charles Wren.
But the biggest mistake was simpler.
Wren had reused the same authentication key on Linda Carter's scanned statement when he tried to mark it as "unverified."
That proved he had accessed the sealed archive years earlier.
Federal agents arrested him in his office.
The Bellmore retracted its statement within hours.
Emma watched the news from her father's hospital room.
Daniel was improving.
Sophie had gone back to class.
For the first time in weeks, nobody was missing, running, bleeding, or lying to her face.
Vincent stood near the window.
"Your job at the Bellmore is available again."
Emma laughed.
"Absolutely not."
"Good answer."
He handed her a folder.
Inside was an offer from the Moretti Foundation.
Not charity.
A paid role overseeing workplace ethics and whistleblower protections across foundation properties.
Emma looked up.
"You made this position up."
"My mother did."
"Of course she did."
Daniel smiled from the bed.
"Take the job. You already tell rich people what they're doing wrong for free."
Emma laughed for the first time in days.
Then Vincent's phone rang.
He listened silently.
"What is it?" Emma asked.
He looked at her.
"Victoria wants to testify publicly."
May you like
"Against Keene?"
"Against everyone. Including herself."
