Chapter 16 - DOMINIC'S LAST DEAL

Dominic was alive.

Keene had taken him from the hospital and moved him to the depot, not to save him but to trade him.

Marco found Dominic handcuffed to a pipe beside Miriam.

Keene stood on a metal catwalk above them with Victoria at his side.

But Victoria wasn't helping him.

She was holding a folder.

"This is what he promised me," she shouted down. "Proof I owned part of Meridian. It was fake."

Keene laughed.

"You believed what you wanted to believe."

Dominic looked at Vincent.

"Don't give him the archive."

Vincent's face twisted. "Now you find a conscience?"

"No. I found out he was going to kill me."

Keene raised a gun.

Emma saw the movement from the lower doorway.

"Vincent!"

Marco fired first, striking the railing. Keene ducked.

Chaos exploded.

Miriam kicked the chair backward. Dominic rolled behind a support beam. Victoria threw the folder over the rail toward Emma.

"Take it!"

Emma caught it.

Keene saw her.

He fired.

The bullet struck the wall inches from her shoulder.

Vincent pulled Emma behind a concrete column.

Police stormed the loading doors.

Keene ran toward a rear stairwell.

Dominic grabbed his ankle from the floor.

Keene fell hard.

Officers surrounded him.

For one second, nobody moved.

Then Dominic began laughing.

Not because he had won.

Because the folder in Emma's hands contained something Keene had never expected Victoria to surrender.

Emma opened it.

Inside were the original payment ledgers.

And one signed statement.

Linda Carter's name was at the top.
