Chapter 7 - Elena’s Last CallPolice were called.

This time, Adrian did not care about appearances.

Marcus left before officers arrived.

His lawyer called within an hour.

No interview without counsel.

Adrian sat in the kitchen.

Oliver slept against his chest.

Maria had her shoulder wrapped.

Vanessa sat under security watch.

No one trusted anyone.

Then Elena’s old phone records arrived from the carrier.

Her final outgoing call was not to Adrian.

It was to Maria.

Duration:

Four minutes, thirteen seconds.

Adrian looked at her.

“You never told me.”

Maria cried.

“She told me not to.”

“What did she say?”

“She said if anything happened, protect Oliver.”

“What else?”

Maria shook her head.

“Tell me.”

“She said Marcus knew.”

Adrian’s chest tightened.

“Knew what?”

“That Oliver wasn’t supposed to inherit only her trust.”

Adrian stared.

“What does that mean?”

Maria had not understood either.

Then attorneys found another estate document.

Adrian’s late father had created a family holding trust years earlier.

Oliver was the sole next-generation beneficiary.

Current value:

$310 million.

Adrian had never focused on it because distributions remained locked until Oliver turned twenty-five.

Unless Adrian died.

Then the trust entered protective management.

Who became temporary corporate voting trustee?

Marcus Vale.

The room went silent.

If Adrian died, Marcus gained control of voting shares worth hundreds of millions until Oliver reached adulthood.

Vanessa whispered:

“Now you see it.”

Adrian looked at her.

“You tried to kill my son.”

She snapped:

“No.”

“You dropped him.”

“I knew Maria would catch him.”

Maria stared.

“You could not know that.”

Vanessa’s face cracked.

“I needed Adrian to believe Maria was dangerous.”

“Why?”

“Because Marcus told me Maria had the original evidence.”

Adrian stood.

“You used my child as bait?”

Vanessa cried:

“I was trying to survive.”

Oliver woke and began crying.

May you like

Adrian looked at her.

“So was he.”
