Chapter 11 - THE FLIGHT TO NASSAU

He had contacted Marcus himself.
Nora recovered their messages from Liam Jr.'s laptop.
LIAM JR: I found Grandpa's key.
MARCUS: What key?
LIAM JR: The box. I know about the shares.
MARCUS: We should talk.
My son had baited him.
Then followed him onto a private flight using a fake story about wanting control of the company.
Nora contacted Bahamian authorities.
Marcus's plane landed in Nassau.
By the time local police reached the marina, both were gone.
Security footage showed them boarding a yacht.
Owned by a shell company connected to Bennett Development.
Rachel found the vessel's satellite registration.
It was heading east.
"Where?"
"Private island lease," she said.
My father had once used the island for executive retreats.
I remembered it.
Nora coordinated with federal authorities.
I insisted on going.
She refused.
I insisted again.
Finally she said, "You stay behind the team. If you freelance, I put you on the next plane home."
"Fine."
"You don't mean that."
"I'll learn."
By sunset, we reached the island.
The guesthouse lights were on.
A door opened.
Marcus stepped onto the veranda alone.
"He's fine!" he shouted.
"Where is my son?"
"He came voluntarily."
"Liam!" I yelled.
My son appeared behind the glass.
He looked scared.
But unharmed.
Marcus raised both hands.
"I just want my legal interests protected."
Nora called back, "Then release the minor."
Marcus laughed.
"Minor? He's sixteen and smarter than all of us."
Liam Jr. looked toward me.
Then toward Marcus.
And suddenly I understood.
My son had not gone there only to get proof.
He was holding something behind his back.
A phone.
Recording.
Marcus did not know.
Then Marcus said the sentence we needed.
"Your grandfather built the whole party because your father would never surrender control willingly."
Liam Jr. asked, "And Lily?"
Marcus shrugged.
"She was leverage."
My hands curled into fists.
Nora touched my arm.
"Don't."
I stayed still.
For my children.
May you like
Then Liam Jr. stepped away from Marcus.
And handed Nora's team the recording.
