Chapter 15 - WHAT AMELIA KNEW

The email was never sent.

It remained in Amelia’s drafts.

Richard had copied it anyway.

Richard,

I know Halcyon belongs to you.

I know you used company consulting contracts to fund your own network.

I know you altered a draft of Sophie’s trust before it reached me.

If you come near her inheritance again, I will take this to Ethan and the board.

Ethan read the words twice.

The date was four days before Amelia entered hospice.

She was too weak to finish the fight.

Richard knew that.

Another draft was addressed to Ethan.

It was only one paragraph.

I need you to believe me before you ask Richard whether I am overreacting.

That sentence hurt more than anything else in the folder.

Ethan remembered every time Amelia complained that Richard inserted himself into family finances.

Every time Ethan answered:

“He means well.”

“He’s like a brother.”

“You’re exhausted.”

He had not chosen Richard over Amelia deliberately.

But impact did not care about intention.

Mara closed the laptop.

“You cannot change what you missed.”

“I know.”

“What you do next matters.”

The Sunday board meeting began at six.

Ethan presented the original trust.

The founder ledger.

The altered pages.

Halcyon payments.

The forged resignation.

He did not present Sophie’s interview.

His daughter was not corporate evidence unless absolutely necessary.

Three directors immediately moved to suspend Northstar.

Two demanded a forensic audit.

One man, Victor Lang, remained silent.

Mara noticed.

Victor had sponsored Richard’s rise inside Hale Biomedical.

Ethan asked:

“Victor, did you know Halcyon belonged to Richard?”

Victor said no.

Then the forensic accountant entered with a fresh report.

Halcyon’s first major payment came from Victor Lang’s personal holding company.

The boardroom went silent.

Richard had not been working alone.
