Chapter 7 - ALEXANDER’S RECORDING

Margaret agreed to hear Alexander’s side.
Police placed Alexander in another room with an audio line.
He said one thing first.
“I am sorry I didn’t find you.”
“Did you tell Dr. Rowan you wished I would disappear?”
Alexander was silent.
“Yes.”
Her face collapsed.
He continued quickly.
“We were fighting.”
“When?”
“Two weeks before your flight.”
“What did I say?”
“You said the company always came first.”
“And you said?”
“I said sometimes I wished I could disappear too. Then I said maybe we both should.”
Margaret looked at me.
The recording had been edited to remove his first sentence.
Cynthia had obtained the home recording through an employee and cut it to make a tired husband sound murderous.
Meanwhile, detectives searched Haven’s records.
Margaret had lived under three false names while New Dawn paid her medical bills, monitored her phone, and intercepted her letters.
The first two years, she was told she suffered memory problems after the crash.
Then she became pregnant.
Alexander’s voice came through the speaker.
“Margaret... whose baby is it?”
She went still.
For the first time, she looked angry.
“Yours.”
Silence.
“That’s impossible,” Alexander said.
“No.”
Margaret looked at the floor.
“Before the Boston trip, we froze embryos at Haven.”
Alexander stopped breathing.
Margaret continued.
“Rowan told me the embryos were destroyed after I ‘died.’”
They were not.
Six months earlier, without Alexander’s consent and while Margaret was isolated, Haven had implanted one.
A Whitmore heir.
Created from embryos belonging to a married couple.
Then hidden inside the woman everyone believed was dead.
“If that child is legally Alexander’s... the trust plan becomes even more powerful.”
May you like
Because Vanessa did not need to produce an heir.
She only needed to steal one.
