Chapter 2 - The Spare Key

"Everybody out," Giulietta said.
No one moved.
She pointed at Warren and Preston.
"Not them. Everyone else."
Marco hesitated.
"Gia—"
"Outside the door. Leave it open."
The door had been locked once. It would not be locked again.
Warren adjusted his cuff.
"This can still be handled quietly."
"You walked into a room where your son had a golf club and I had a bruise forming on my wrist. Your first concern was jewelry. So no, Warren. Quiet is over."
Preston stood.
"She attacked me."
"Try that sentence in front of the forty-seven cameras your father insisted the hotel install for security."
Preston went still.
Warren did not.
That worried her more.
"There are no cameras inside the bridal suite," he said.
"I didn't say inside."
There it was.
Giulietta stepped closer.
"You knew this door would be locked. You had a key. You knew there were no cameras in here. And neither of you expected my people to be waiting outside. Tell me why."
Warren sighed as though she were a difficult child.
"Because your father understood how marriages between families work. Sometimes emotion has to be removed from the equation."
"My father is dead."
"Which is why you need guidance."
Preston smirked.
Giulietta looked at him, then back at Warren.
"You thought I would marry him after he threatened me?"
"We thought you would remember what is at stake."
Warren reached inside his jacket.
"Slow," he warned.
Warren removed a folded document.
She opened it.
Then she saw her own name.
A paragraph had been highlighted in yellow.
Giulietta read it twice.
"This isn't in my prenup."
Warren smiled.
"It is now."
Her eyes lifted.
"You changed it."
"Your attorneys approved the final revision yesterday."
Because only one attorney had authority to approve changes.
Elena Voss.
Her godmother.
Giulietta turned toward Marco.
"Find Elena. Now."
Marco was already reaching for his phone.

Then his expression changed.
"Her driver says she never made it to the hotel."
