My Two-Year-Old Whispered, “Daddy, She Hurts Me When You’re Gone”—Then I Looked Around the Table

“Daddy, she keeps tormenting me whenever you’re away.”

Daniel froze.

He had just entered the dining room and found two-year-old Lily crying on the floor—

her faded pink dress torn, her face dirty, and bread scattered around her.

Seconds earlier, Vanessa had knocked her from the chair with a pan.

“Go ahead and cry; no one is coming to save trash like you.”

Daniel rushed forward and lifted Lily into his arms.

Then she told him what happened whenever he wasn’t home.

“Daddy, she keeps tormenting me whenever you’re away.”

Daniel’s face changed.

He placed Lily safely behind him—

grabbed the same pan—

and sent Vanessa crashing backward onto the floor.

Then Margaret stood up.

“That bastard child deserves it.”

Daniel turned.

One punch sent Margaret into the dining table, toppling dishes and food everywhere.

Finally, he stood between Lily and both women.

“You tormented my daughter. You’re done for.”

But the most disturbing part wasn’t what Daniel had just witnessed.

It was Lily saying this happened whenever he was gone—
