Chapter 11 - THE LETTER THAT DISAPPEARED

Melissa began cooperating after her arrest.

She admitted Mark had removed Sarah's sealed letter from the bank box three weeks earlier. He had hidden it in Richard's Denver office inside a cabinet of old aircraft patents.

Agents recovered it that afternoon.

Richard almost read it alone.

Then he changed his mind.

"No more family secrets around Noah."

The boy sat beside him while Richard skipped the parts too painful for a child.

Sarah wrote that Mark had become obsessed with inheriting control of Hale Aeronautics. He resented her shares and pressured her to transfer them to him.

She refused.

One paragraph cut Richard deeper than anything else.

Richard, your greatest weakness is not that you are too hard on Mark. It is that you keep saving him from consequences and calling it love. Every rescue teaches him that somebody else will pay for what he does.

Richard lowered the page.

Noah asked, "Is that true?"

Richard swallowed. "Yes."

Sarah's final instruction was clear: if Mark ever tried to seize control through her shares or Noah's trust, Richard should remove him from every family role.

Dana closed the file.

"Sarah's trust lets you replace Mark as trustee once financial misconduct is formally alleged. I filed the emergency petition. Hearing is tomorrow."

Noah clutched the airplane. "Do I have to see Dad?"

"Maybe," Richard said. "But you won't be alone."

That night, after Noah fell asleep, Richard's phone rang from an unknown number.

He answered.

Mark's voice came through.

"Dad, don't go to court tomorrow."

Richard's blood chilled.

Mark was supposed to be in custody.
