Chapter 9 - THE BOARDROOM WAR

At 9:58 a.m., Richard sat at the lodge dining table with a laptop in front of him and Noah's wooden airplane beside it.
Twelve directors appeared on screen.
The lead independent director, Helen Cho, opened the meeting.
"Richard, serious concerns have been raised about your judgment and physical conduct last night."
"Good," Richard said. "Then let's discuss serious concerns."
Dana shared the forged medical report, the planned incapacity petition, the trust losses, and emails about using a court order to shift voting control.
Mark's attorney objected.
Helen cut him off. "I want answers."
Thomas Vance spoke.
"I answered Mark's questions about removing Richard. I failed to report warning signs years ago. I did not know about the forged doctor or what happened to Noah, but I participated in conversations I should have reported. I'm resigning."
Richard did not forgive him.
But at least Thomas had stopped lying.
Dana played twenty seconds of Sarah's recording.
The motion to suspend Richard died immediately.
Instead, the board voted eleven to zero, with one abstention, to suspend Mark from all access and refer the evidence to outside counsel and federal authorities.
Richard should have felt victorious.
He felt tired.
Then Helen shared one more document.
"We found this submitted yesterday."
It was an order to move Noah's remaining trust assets into a Cayman fund.
Mark had signed it.
The second required signature was Richard's.
Forged again.
But this time the electronic authentication code came from inside Richard's own Denver office.
Dana looked at him.

"Someone else is helping Mark."
And that person was still free.
