The emergency hearing took place by video because the mountain roads were still dangerous.

Judge Alvarez appeared on screen. Richard, Dana, Maya, and Noah's child advocate sat at the lodge. Mark and Claudia joined separately with lawyers.

Noah did not have to testify live. His forensic interview was filed under seal.

Mark's attorney claimed Richard had manipulated a family dispute to seize Noah and punish his son.

Dana answered with photographs, Dr. Patel's report, the trust records, Sarah's files, and the attempted Cayman transfer.

Then Claudia's lawyer spoke.

"My client admits Noah was placed outside as punishment and that Mark directed the duration. She also admits participating."

Mark exploded. The judge muted him.

Claudia continued through tears. "Mark said Richard would always choose Noah if he thought Noah was in danger. We were supposed to make Noah look difficult. Then Mark would send him to boarding school after the incapacity case."

The judge asked, "Why?"

"Because Noah started asking about his trust."

Dana stopped writing.

Claudia explained that Noah had found an old statement among Sarah's things and asked why it contained so many zeros. Melissa told Mark.

Richard looked at the wooden airplane.

The punishment had never been about stolen wood.

It had been about a frightened child finding a financial trail. Mark and Claudia had needed Noah scared, discredited, and eventually far away before Richard could hear the questions he was asking. The snow outside the lodge had not been discipline. It had been intimidation.

Judge Alvarez removed Mark as trustee, appointed Richard temporary successor trustee, extended Noah's placement with Richard, and ordered no unsupervised contact from Mark or Claudia.

Noah covered his face and cried.

Richard held him.

"Richard... the forensic accountants found a five-million-dollar life-insurance policy on Noah."
