Chapter 6 - WHAT HENRY HID

The new autopsy found a rare anticoagulant and a sedative in Henry's preserved tissue.
The same drug class had been found in Claire after the wedding.
Crane's office records showed a private appointment with Henry the night before the stroke.
Payment source: VANCE CONSULTING GROUP.
But Adrian had thrown one accusation at Claire outside court.
"You think your father was clean?"
He was not.
Rachel found a sealed internal report from 2009.
MERCER HARBOR 6.
Four dockworkers died after a falsified safety inspection.
Henry knew the report was false.
He paid the families privately and fired executives, but never reported the cover-up.
Claire felt sick.
Her father could be a murder victim and still have failed other people.
James Porter called.
"I know one reason Henry stayed quiet."
"There is no good reason."
"I know."
The falsified safety report had been created by Robert Sloan.
Henry protected him because he feared exposing the company to criminal liability.
Fifteen years later, Sloan helped the Vances destroy Henry.
Claire opened Harbor 6 claims anyway.
A director warned her Adrian would weaponize the scandal.
"Then he uses the truth."
"But the stock—"
"Four men died."
The boardroom fell silent.
Later, Lily asked, "Did Grandpa do something bad?"
"Yes."
"Was he bad?"
Claire thought carefully.
"He did something wrong because he was afraid of losing the company."
"That's still wrong."
"Yes."
That evening, Robert Sloan surrendered to federal agents.
Claire met him through glass.
"Who ordered Crane to drug my father?"
Sloan looked down.
"Adrian's mother."
Claire froze.
"Vivian Vance?"
Sloan nodded.
Then he opened a briefcase full of payment records.
The last payment was fifty thousand dollars to Lily's education trust.
Claire stared.
"Why was Adrian moving money through my daughter's account?"
May you like
Sloan answered quietly.
"To make it look like you were stealing from her."
