His scream tore through the cabin as she pushed the tweezers deeper into his ear.
Then she felt something move.
Not wax.
Not skin.
Something alive.
He screamed again.
āGET IT OUT!ā
She pulled.
And a long, black, writhing thing slid free.
For one second, neither of them breathed.
Then the storm outside suddenly stopped.
No wind.
No rain.
Nothing.
The creature twisted between the tweezersā¦
opened something that looked like a mouthā¦
and whispered one broken word:
āDonātā¦ā
The lantern went out.
And from beneath the cabin floor came the voice of a woman who had been dead for nine years.
āMaraā¦ open the cellar.ā
