Chapter 9 - THE BRACELET

Victoria was wearing it.
There it was around Victoriaâs wrist: her grandmotherâs bracelet.
Ava stood.
âTake it off.â
Victoria looked at Charles.
âDad?â
âVictoria, leave.â
âNo.â
Ava stepped closer.
âThat belonged to my grandmother.â
Victoriaâs face shifted from confusion to horror.
âDamian gave this to me.â
Ava stopped.
âWhat?â
âFor my birthday last year.â
The room went silent.
Damian had sold Avaâs grandmotherâs bracelet.
Then somehow bought it back through Charlesâs network.
Then gave it to Victoria.
Avaâs stolen past had become a gift for the woman who replaced her.
Victoria unclasped it with shaking hands. âI didnât know.â
Charles snapped, âEnough.â
Victoria ignored him.
âDamian said it came from an estate sale.â
Ava took the bracelet and traced the tiny dent her grandmother made when Ava was eight.
Instead she asked Victoria, âDid you know about Knox Consulting?â
âNo.â
âDid you know Damian used my identity?â
âNo.â
âDid you know your family paid it?â
Victoria looked at her father.
Charles said nothing.
That silence answered everything.
Victoria turned.
âYou knew?â
Charles stood.
âThis is business.â
âYou used Damian?â
âI managed exposure.â
âYou gave him money?â
âI protected your future.â
Victoria laughed, broken and furious.
âMy future?â
She ripped off her engagement ring and placed it on the table.
She looked at Ava.
âIâm sorry for what I did at the gala.â
Ava held the bracelet.
âYou were cruel.â
âI know.â
âYou enjoyed it.â
Victoria swallowed.
âI know.â
Then Lucianâs phone buzzed.
He read the message.
âDamian just left Sterling North.â
Charles went pale.
âWith what?â
Lucian looked at him.
âThat reaction suggests you know.â
Charles reached for his phone.
Security blocked him.
Lucian continued.
âDamian downloaded the acquisition archive and transferred twenty-eight million dollars from a controlled account.â
Ava stared.
âHeâs running.â
Naomi called from the doorway.
âNot alone.â
She held up a security image.
Damian was entering a black SUV.
The passenger was Monica Bell.
May you like
Avaâs supervisor from Bellmere Events.
The woman who had watched the champagne pour and done nothing.
